Coach Olivares has been teaching and coaching high school tennis for 8 years, but has been in coaching for the past 10 years. He is coming from Abilene High School, where he was the assistant tennis coach the past 6 years, for a successful 6A program. Coach Olivares grew up in Houston, Texas where he graduated from Alief Hastings High School. He competed in the Super Championship division in USTA in juniors, and was able to climb into the top 20 in Texas. He continued his tennis career at McMurry University in Abilene, Texas where he was a part of McMurry’s first ever conference championship. He went on to graduate Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Business Administration with a focus on Marketing. Upon graduating, he moved back to Houston to work for Alliance Tennis Academy, where he trained some of the top players in the Houston area for two years, before getting into high school coaching. He made the move to Abilene High School in 2013. In his 6 years at Abilene HIgh, he had three state qualifiers, as well as a third place finish. Abilene High also climbed to #13 in the state 6A rankings, and won their first district championship since 2009, in 2018.He is excited to be a Knight, and is looking forward to being part of such a great community and program.
